Some projects raise the bar. This one set a new one.
We helped bring real-time virtual try-on to Makeup by Mario, a beauty brand led by one of the most iconic names in the industry. This innovative, camera-based experience allows users to try products directly on their faces, helping them feel confident in their purchases. While it may seem straightforward, the technology behind it is anything but simple.
Mario Dedivanovic is not just a makeup artist. He’s the makeup artist, the long-time beauty visionary behind Kim Kardashian’s signature looks, and the world’s most-followed artist in the space. He launched his own brand with the same precision and ambition he brings to his craft. Everything about it is high-touch, high-standard, and the digital experience needed to match.
This is where our long-time partners and friends at FFFACE.ME came in, inviting us to collaborate on the project. FFFACE.ME is known for pushing creative boundaries in beauty and technology, working with clients such as L’Oréal, Mugler, Meta, Lenovo, Visa, and Porsche. They led the creation of ultra-realistic AR filters, while we at Bachoo focused on the complex work of integrating those filters natively
The challenge we faced was significant. Most augmented reality (AR) try-on solutions failed to accurately render makeup, making them unsuitable for a brand like Mario’s. The only technology that delivered truly realistic AR makeup was Snap, which required native integration directly into the website without using iframes or third-party layers.
Our task was to ensure everything worked not only technically but also seamlessly, intuitively, and beautifully. Here’s what we built:

Snap CEO Evan Spiegel took the stage at AWE 2025 and featured the Makeup by Mario filters in his keynote, a vivid example of how Snapchat’s Camera Kit AR SDK enables AR across hundreds of apps.
Beyond the viral wows this project received, what mattered most was its real impact on the business. Try-ons today are more than just a feature: they’re reshaping how we shop online. This technology builds trust and turns clicks into purchases.
